Asset Management Professional Program Celebrates Ten Years

Mississauga (March 27, 2025) – The Asset Management Professional (AMP) Certification program, developed by PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada (PEMAC), celebrates its tenth anniversary.

With the support of a Sector Initiatives Fund grant awarded by the Province of Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in 2013, PEMAC subject-matter experts developed a six-course program leading to a Certification in Asset Management. The first offering of the program was launched by Humber Polytechnic in early 2015. Since that time, there have been over 3200 course enrollments, and the program has evolved in pace with the development of asset management knowledge around the world.

The AMP program introduces participants to the latest in strategic asset management thinking; developing the capacity to engage others and build knowledge and skill in key subject areas such as risk management and knowledge management; and introduces tools for strategic decision-making at each stage of the asset lifecycle. Alignment with the ISO55000 series of standards, the GFMAM's Asset Management Landscape, and other global resources, ensures participants are leveraging core asset management principals to apply within their organization.

The program is designed for mid-career professionals from a variety of backgrounds (IT, engineering and business management) across both public and private sectors, who have responsibility for managing decisions with respect to the core life cycle functions such as design, selection, operation and maintenance of an organization’s assets.

“As a participant in the first cohort, and as an AMP instructor for the past ten years, I have seen firsthand the benefit that building holistic asset management knowledge across an organization can have on achieving an organization's objectives,” shares Cliff Williams, CAMP, member of the curriculum development team. “I’m also pleased with how the delivery style of these courses have engaged professionals at all levels, elevating their asset management knowledge to the next level.”

Today, the AMP courses are offered online through Northern Lakes College in a cohort-based, NLC Anytime, Anywhere format. The flexible, asynchronous delivery model allows participants to work through the weekly lessons at times that suit their schedule. The ten-week courses are available each Fall, Winter and Spring semester, with the next set of courses beginning the week of April 15, 2025.

PEMAC’s highly recognized CAMP certification has been awarded to 350 program graduates. Some participants have also leveraged the depth of asset management knowledge from the program together with their experience to be awarded with one of PEMAC’s competency-based, CTAM, CPAM or CSAM certifications.

"Ongoing curriculum enhancements ensure participants engage with the latest global standards while utilizing diverse multimedia learning tools such as discussion forums, videos, and podcasts," says Nicolle Guillen, PEMAC’s Education and Professional Development Manager. "PEMAC is proud to have advanced asset management knowledge and recognition across Canada and globally over the past decade."
