Maintenance Management Professional Program Drives Improvements with Auto Industry Professionals
A team of professionals responsible for maintenance and operations at Presstran Industries, a manufacturing division of Magna International, have successfully completed the Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) Program.
Starting in April 2018 twenty professionals from this automotive parts manufacturing plant in St. Thomas, Ontario, began their journey through the MMP program. The custom offering of this program, was delivered onsite to practitioners in a variety of roles including assistant general managers, maintenance managers, maintenance lead hands, maintenance planners, lean coordinators and others.
The MMP program consists of eight modules and was delivered by Fanshawe College Corporate Training Solutions (CTS) onsite at the Presstran plant. Experienced and knowledgeable instructors travelled to the plant to deliver the training. Completed monthly, each module was structured to progressively help participants understand and embrace the various concepts necessary to be effective as maintenance and physical asset management professionals. “We are committed to meeting the needs of our clients and delivering quality training and services”, said Candace Miller, Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives and Business Development.
Fanshawe CTS works closely with their strategic partners and facilitators to provide the best learning experience. “It was a thrill to instruct to this group of professionals. The variety of roles and experience in the room enhanced the discussions and learnings. Their passion to expand their maintenance management knowledge was inspiring,” shared Roger Davies, a PEMAC Instructor who delivered many of the MMP modules to this group.
The program was delivered in a compressed format that enabled the participants to complete it in approximately one year. The participants are now armed with the skills and knowledge to drive improvements in business processes, operational productivity, cost reductions, safety, environmental compliance, increased economic life of assets and effective communication between departments, and across their organization.
The final presentation of their Capstone projects, in the presence of senior leaders and other professionals, allowed participants to apply the knowledge they had gained throughout the program. Final projects focused on improvements to assets such as enhanced robotic controls and energy savings, all leading to improved efficiencies for Presstran.
With the support of senior leaders within Magna, these graduates who have been applying their learnings throughout the program, are now MMP certified practitioners.
“PEMAC congratulates each of the participants in the Presstran group on achieving their MMP certification. The investment and commitment that they have made to expanding their maintenance management skills is inspiring and will provide great benefits to the organization immediately and for years to come”, shares Nicolle Guillen, Professional Education and Development Manager at PEMAC.
