PEMAC Presents Mike Crowell with Lifetime Membership Award
Mississauga (November 5, 2024) – PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada recognized Mike Crowell with Lifetime Membership at a recent PEMAC Awards ceremony held in Saint John, New Brunswick as part of the MainTrain conference. The ceremony celebrated excellence in the maintenance, reliability and asset management profession.
Lifetime Membership is granted to a long-standing member upon their retirement from a formal leadership position within the association, recognizing the individual’s significant contribution to PEMAC.
Recently retired as the Director of Maintenance of Irving Forest Products at J.D. Irving Limited, Mike is a professional engineer who holds an MBA as well as PEMAC MMP and CAMP professional designations. Based in Saint John, New Brunswick, Mike has been a PEMAC volunteer for more than ten years including six years of service on the PEMAC Board of Directors. He contributed significantly to the development of PEMAC’s current management system which has provided the means to turn good ideas into resourced initiatives which, in turn, makes it possible to invite the participation of wider number of members and to achieve results that are aligned with PEMAC’s strategy more quickly than would otherwise be possible. In addition to his service as a Director, Mike has contributed to PEMAC’s annual conference as part of the MainTrain committee and as a keynote speaker.
In his role at Irving, Mike was instrumental in integrating the courses of PEMAC’s Maintenance Management Professional Certification program into progressive Maintenance Management career paths. Over forty Irving employees have achieved the MMP Certification and many more have taken a subset of the courses. Taking a page from Mike’s approach, PEMAC has articulated focussed learning paths through the MMP program, and now offers recognition for completion of subsets of the courses relevant to different maintenance roles. Uptake for this program has been significant.
“Mike has a way of seeing the whole field of opportunity and challenges, developing trusting relationships, building vision, and then patiently and persistently helping the whole mass to advance through the efforts of each individual. He’ll pitch in directly himself at every level too, if necessary, to develop a spreadsheet or document, give a memorable keynote address, set up the chairs, or tidy the room after the meeting. It has been a privilege to work with such a people-person who makes getting things done a lot of fun,” reports Cindy Snedden, Executive Director of PEMAC
“From day one, connecting with PEMAC has been a positive and rewarding experience. I have always admired and appreciated the passion and commitment from the professional and dedicated staff and volunteers at PEMAC and with all their help, guidance, and efforts through the connect, learn, contribute process, which is the PEMAC way. I challenge all organizations to find that ‘champion within’ who will lead their teams through the accelerated development realized through continuing education, application, and networking opportunities with PEMAC,” shares Mike Crowell.
