Professionals in GTA Gather to Learn: Three Tools of Maintenance Productivity

PEMAC's GTA Chapter recently held a professional development event for asset management, maintenance and reliability professionals in the region. Participants came from far and wide, even travelling from as far as Ottawa to join us at the Darlington Energy Centre in Courtice, Ontario.

Guests welcomed Richard Beer from TRO Maintenance Solutions and MMP Instructor, who provided an informative workshop on the Three Tools of Maintenance Productivity. Through Richard's engaging presentation style he was able to conduct a fun and interactive workshop providing practical tools to increase maintenance productivity.

​Participants also were able to tour and learn more about the Mock-up training facility at the Darlington Energy Centre. The Mock-Up facility offers a full-scale, reconfigurable replica of a reactor that allows staff to be trained and problem solve various situations before they have to work in the stations. The training centre allows tool performance testing, allows staff to practice refurbishment functions, using actual tools while wearing full protective equipment well in advance of having to undergo the actual work in the power stations. Chapter participants witnessed this testing environment up close and were able to ask practical questions.

Raheel Naqvi, Engineering Section Manager (Acting), Monitoring and Diagnostic Centre (PREDICT), at OPG then presented guests with more details about the OPG Monitoring and Diagnostics Centre, and some of the strategies they are implementing today with the vast data they collect on a daily basis.
