In 2012, Calgary Water launched a comprehensive program (Secondary Water Supply Facilities Rehabilitation Program) which included assessing the condition of 18 pump stations. The result of this program ranked Shaganappi Pump Station as the most critical based on the condition of the equipment, the relatively large population and number of critical institutions it services. After graduating from the University of Calgary in Mechanical Engineering Kendal worked in high rise building mechanical design, small commercial and recreational maintenance program development, of course travelled - Aussie land that is. At present, Kendal has worked at the City of Calgary in Water and Wastewater Treatment for over 20 years all in the operations and maintenance of treatment plant facilities. His current role involves leading the Maintenance Planning group responsible for planning, coordinating, and scheduling operations and maintenance work activities for the Water Treatment Plants. The main functions this group provides include: asset inventory and specification information, support for the operation and utilization of the Work and Asset Management computer application, enhancing the reliability of the plant operation, Repair vs Replace Decision Strategy, Material Management Strategy, Regional Shutdown and Turnaround Program, Preventive Maintenance Program, Predictive Maintenance Technology, Asset Management Strategy, and Life cycle asset profiling and rehabilitation program.
