Certification Overview

PEMAC's Certification program provides a means for practicing professionals to demonstrate credible expertise, professionalism and commitment to continuous learning in the field of maintenance management and asset management.

There are two complimentary paths to Certification: 1) through completion of an educational program (MMP or AMP) or 2) through a peer-reviewed application process that recognizes a broad range of prior learning and applied experience (CTAM, CPAM, and CSAM)

Competency Based Certifications

Aligned with the WPiAM Global Certification Scheme (GCS), PEMAC’s tiered, experience-focused certifications provide a clear career progression for asset management professionals worldwide. Starting with foundational knowledge, each subsequent level offers more advanced assessment criteria, supporting career development and ensuring global recognition within the asset management industry.

This competency-based scheme provides a structure which organizations anywhere in the world can use to ensure that employees have the knowledge, skills and experience to apply asset management principles in various contexts. It also provides professionals with global recognition including transportability and transferability for their asset management competency and career path. PEMAC offers three certifications: CTAM, CPAM and CSAM that align with the global scheme.

Competency Certification Course Equivalencies

The following Canadian courses have been approved by the WPiAM to meet the knowledge requirements of CTAM, CPAM and CSAM certifications as shown below. This is a growing list that will be updated as other courses are approved. There are other global educational offerings and certifications that also meet the requirements that are not listed here. Applicants who have taken these courses simply need to show proof of completion, and only need to demonstrate the required work experience, and that they have applied the competencies in practice.

Are you already Certified MMP or CAMP?

In general, anyone who has completed all of the courses in the MMP program will have the required domain knowledge in maintenance and reliability for either the CTAM or CPAM certifications. In addition to MMP, candidates will need to also successfully pass the CAMA exam or equivalent, for the CPAM certification, to fulfill proof of knowledge of ISO5500x, GFMAM Assessor and Landscape publications. Which of these certifications you might pursue would depend on your demonstrated work experience, skills and level of responsibility.

Similarly, anyone who has completed the full AMP program will have the depth of asset management knowledge required for a CTAM, CPAM, or CSAM depending on assessment of competency based on work experience.  A subset of the AMP courses provides the depth of asset management domain knowledge required for the CTAM and CPAM certifications, when coupled with assessment of competency based on work experience. See the chart below for more details.
