Dennis Banks, Vice President, Syncrude Site Maintenance
Dennis has more than 30 years of experience and a track record of performance improvement in the Oilsands, petroleum refining, midstream and military industries. Since November 2023, he has served as Vice President of Maintenance for Syncrude a Suncor operated joint venture which has a production capacity of 350,000 barrels per day. He is responsible for the overall development and performance of Syncrude's Maintenance team. Previously, he held the positions of Vice President, Upgrading Operations before moving to the role of Vice President, Edmonton Refinery. In September 2021, he was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations Services in overseeing the centralized organization accountable for Reliability and Technical Services, Environment, Health & Safety, and established a new, dedicated Operations Risk Management group. Dennis helped to charter Mosaic -Suncor's Black Employee Network in February 2022 and currently sits as Executive Sponsor. Before joining Suncor in 2012, he held a variety of production focused positions with increasing levels of responsibility for Frontier Oil, Marathon Ashland Petroleum, Exxon Mobil, and Valero Energy in the United States. Dennis is deeply involved in the community, currently serving as board member of The HUB Family Resource Center and at the John Ware Institute where he received the John Ware Fellow Award. He is a past Senate Committee member at the University of Alberta from 2020 to 2023. Dennis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1993. He is a proud 33rd Degree Prince Hall Mason, a member of The Kappa Alpha Psi®Fraternity, American Institute of Chemical Engineers and The National Society of Black Engineers. Dennis is an avid sports fan, cheering for the LSU Tiger Football Team, Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Pistons and Tigers. Dennis also enjoys yoga, weightlifting and fishing. He is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Education: B.Sc., Chemical Engineering.
