Continuing Professional Development FAQ

Question 1

What if, at the end of the three year period, I haven't acquired sufficient hours?

Answer

The Certification committee will follow up with any that have not met the requirements after three years and will make a determination of next steps on a case by case basis. In general, some specific steps be specified by a certain date with the consequence of revoking the Certification if the steps are not followed.

Question 2

What if I'm retired or not working directly in the field of practice covered by my Certification?

Answer

You can declare yourself "Not practicing" as you apply for recertification and as such can, therefore, continue to claim PEMAC Certification without following CPD requirements (as long as you meet the other requirements for certification). If and when you decide to go back to practice you would notify the Certification committee and would be asked to undertake relevant professional development specific to your area of practice. The requirements for continuing professional development would then come back in to force for you.

Question 3

What is the difference between PEMAC Certification and the certificate of completion I have received from the Post Secondary institution?

Answer

You will always be able to say on your resume or Linked in profile that you successfully completed the requirements of the MMP or the CAMP educational program as the case may be.

PEMAC Certification, on the other hand, is a statement about your ongoing professionalism and as such requires: 1)  Adherence to the PEMAC Code of Ethics 2) Compliance with continuing professional development requirements 3) Payment of certification renewal fees which enable us to administer well-respected standards. PEMAC lists individuals who have complied with these requirements on its website as "PEMAC Certified" and authorizes them to represent themselves as PEMAC certified through the use of post-nominal letters.

Question 4

For the "Formal and Education and Training" category do homework hours count toward CPD?

Answer

No. In this category the hours that should be counted are usually considered lecture hours or 'credit' hours. For example, if a 1 credit course in a degree program is considered 30 hours, then 30 hours of CPD could be claimed.

Question 5

I hold more than one PEMAC Certification. Do the CPD Requirements add?

Answer

No.

If you have more than one PEMAC Certification, meeting the CPD requirements of the 'highest' certification will suffice.

Question 6

If I became certified in the first half of the year (April for example), when do I need to begin tracking my CPD hours?

Answer

For newly Certified individuals the 'start line' for their CPD requirements is July 1st following the date of their certification. For example, if you became certified on April 1, 2025, you would begin tracking your CPD hours on July 1, 2025 and the first submission form would be due 14 months after that.
